When 911 is called for a medical emergency, the call is answered by a dispatch team at the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The team simultaneously gathers information from the caller and dispatches Woodbury emergency responders.
The dispatcher provides pre-arrival instructions over the phone while Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff responds. Because we routinely have several paramedics working on the street with their full set of Advanced Life Support (ALS) medic gear, we have a very rapid response to medical emergencies.
The paramedics arrive in police or fire squads. The ambulance, which is staffed by on duty or paid-on-call firefighter/EMT’s will meet them at the scene. A paramedic will assess the patient and if the patient is transported to a hospital, EMT’s and/or paramedics will provide patient care.
