The city and Great River Greening have a shared interest in improving areas of native vegetation and have partnered to improve pollinator and wildlife habitat in the wooded and wetland area south of City Hall referred to as the City Hall Woods. The project will remove invasive brush, including Buckthorn and Green Ash trees, and seed the area with native vegetation. The vegetation restoration project is proposed to start in the Summer of 2023 (pending dry soil conditions) and be completed by the fall of 2025.
The project will include selective removal of diseased or dying ash trees along the trail corridor and will require temporary trail closures, which will be clearly marked, during that time. Ash trees outside of the trail corridor will remain onsite for wildlife habitat.
