In the event of a fire emergency during the winter, could firefighters find the hydrant near your home? Or does it get buried under a snow pile?
The city has encouraged residents to adopt a fire hydrant near their homes and keep snow shoveled away from it during the winter season. This will ensure hydrants are visible and will greatly speed the response time in case of an emergency. At a minimum, residents who have hydrants nearby are asked to make sure the hydrant is cleared of snow enough to make it visible from the street. Even better is to clear the snow 3 feet all around the hydrant so firefighters can easily connect a hose.
To emphasize the importance and also inject some fun into a potentially back-breaking task, the City of Woodbury would like to honor its "Hydrant Heroes!" Take a photo of you and your family with your "adopted" fire hydrant and the city will post it on Facebook and Twitter with your name and location of your fire hydrant! Just email the photo with your name and the location of your fire hydrant (street name is fine).
