Stormwater Pollution Protection Plan

The city operates a municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4), which includes roads with drainage systems, municipal streets, catch basins, curbs, gutters, ditches, man-made channels, storm drains, etc.

In accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), MS4s in Minnesota must satisfy the requirements of the MS4 general permit. This permit is designed to reduce the amount of sediment and other pollutants entering state waters from stormwater systems.

One of the requirements of this permit is to develop a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (SWPPP) and adopt best practices.

The SWPPP Document was determined to be complete by the MPCA as part of the 2020 MS4 General Permit. The MPCA will provide public notice and the opportunity for hearing on each MS4’s proposed SWPPP Document, including 30-day public notice.
