Be a responsible pet owner: pick up after your pet

Springtime is approaching, and that means the sounds of migratory birds will soon be returning and beautiful vegetation will be sprouting back to life. It also means our public parks and trails soon will be buzzing with activity. But tranquil trail walks can be marred by the unsightly mess left behind by people who don’t pick up after their pets.

When taking a dog for a walk, be sure to clean up after them. Not only is neglected dog waste unsightly, it is hazardous to human health and the health of lakes, rivers, creeks and wetlands.

'Poop Scooping' required by city code

City ordinances require pet owners to carry supplies for excrement removal when walking a pet off their property. All messes on public property, including Andy's Bark Park off-leash dog park, or on the private property of others must be cleaned up.

Pets also must be leashed anytime they are off their owner’s property. Persons who do not comply may be cited for violating city code and fined.
