1. What type of toilet do I need?

• To be eligible for the rebate, toilet MUST be WaterSense Certified. View a list of eligible toilets.
• When shopping for a toilet, look for the WaterSense Label. 
• If the toilet is not WaterSense Certified, it will not be eligible for the rebate.

2. How much is the rebate?

• Up to $100 per toilet- does not include tax and cannot exceed purchase price. For example, if the toilet cost is $95 + tax, the rebate would only be $95.
• Maximum 2 toilets per household.

3. How will I know if funding is available?

• The City has funds to issue 500 rebates between July 1st, 2022-June 2024.
• Funds are available first come first serve.
• The city's website will be updated once funds are running low.

4. Do I have to install the toilet first?

• Yes, proof of installation is a requirement for the rebate.
• The program is partially funded by a Metropolitan Council Water Efficiency Grant. To be eligible for the funding, proof of installation is required.

5. Who will install the toilet?

The homeowner is responsible for purchase and installation of the toilet. The homeowner may install the toilet themselves, or hire a contractor for installation. The cost of installation is not eligible for reimbursement. 

The rebate can only be used for the cost of the toilet, not installation. 

6. Do I need a permit to install a toilet?

No, a permit is not required to install a toilet.

7. Where do I dispose of my old toilet?

Contact your trash hauler, or visit the Washington County Disposal Directory and search "toilet."

8. When will I get my rebate?

Once the application is approved, a check will be mailed to your residence within 30 days.

9. I have a private well. Am I eligible?

Unfortunately, no. The grant funding is only eligible for propertied that are connected to the city water supply. The city will be evaluate future programs after the pilot program is complete in 2024.
