Every 2 minutes, an adult collapses from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) without warning. SCA can happen
anywhere, at anytime, to anyone, and it is almost always fatal.
In response to this, Woodbury Public Safety launched an initiative called Take Heart™ Woodbury to train 7,000 people in our community Hands-Only™ CPR. The goal of Take Heart™ Woodbury is to educate people about cardiac arrest and empower members of the community to assist an adult who suddenly collapses.
Hands-Only™ CPR is a simplified method of CPR that requires no mouth-to-mouth breathing. It is a two-step technique that involves calling 911 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the victim's chest until help arrives.
We reached our goal in 2013 but the Public Safety Department continues training community members in Hands-Only™ CPR. To date, more than 11,000 community members have been trained! Thank you to all those who have participated in our programs and classes, especially our Take Heart™ Heroes.
You can join Woodbury Public Safety in our efforts. Sign up and attend an upcoming training session, host a Save a Life Party or event (for groups of 1-100 people), or learn at home by checking out a CPR Training Kit from the Public Safety Department.
